I used 3M VHB double sided sticky tape (comes in big rectangles and you can cut it to any size). It holds really well, nearly impossible to remove.
Blu-tack was used only as a temporary holder when soldering on the table.

Did my own adapter recently, this thread has helped me a lot. I used Arduino Pro Micro and Raspberry Pi 2.
