I have not heard about anyone doing such thing.

It requires either to have GIMX handle the RPM counter or to have GIMX send the info to an external app.
In both cases it requires to modify the GIMX software.

Is there any movement when you enter the dead zone calibration?
If yes, this means it's not properly set. Decrease it until movement stops.

This gave me an idea :) Adding a command line option to make GIMX to be notified about changes for the config file, and exit on modify+close events.
