Use a usb headset with your console.

The G35 from Logitech is a usb headset that can't work as-is with the PS3 or the 360.

As a work-around, it's possible to connect the audio output of the console to the PC line-in, and to play the sound to the headset.

The following instructions explain how to do this in Ubuntu, using the terminal.

1. In the gnome sound control panel, select line-in in the input tab.

2. Install paman.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install paman
3. Using paman, identify the input and the output.

Code: Select all

paman

4. Play with low latency.

Code: Select all

pacat -r --latency-msec=1 -d alsa_input.pci-0000_00_08.0.analog-stereo | pacat -p --latency-msec=1 -d alsa_output.usb-Logitech_Logitech_G35_Headset-00-Headset.analog-stereo

Tip: in case you hear some noise, try to lower the audio output level of the PC.

Enjoy!!

Hi, great idea, it might be used to solve the issue with the conflict between BT headsets and GIMX
Now, please, tell me how you convert the optical signal line out from ps3 to a P2 line in in a PC, do you have a converter or something?

best regards!

Hi,

Does your screen have stereo output?

Hi, thank you for answering that quick!

It's a monitor and yes, it has a p2 line out. I could just connect a P2 headset there and I suppose you would suggest I link this line out to the pc line in and keep the wireless headset... I should have thought about this
Anyway, I also saw in a website saying that you can keep the HDMI but still use the AV analog cable to output the audio to the pc line in and just forget about the yellow cable.

Nevertheless, I would also like to use the microphone and none of these solutions will solve the issue, so, an usb headset is still the only complete solution, right?

I just realized I can use my regular USB camera plugged to the PS3 as my microphone. It looks like it'll work.
Still open for suggestions though....

Hi

I'm using the EYE cam as a mic, works good, but my friends complains that the sound is not as clear as before.. It's like I'm talking in a box they say.

Sorry if I'm resurrecting a dead topic here, but I feel that I can elaborate a little bit on some of the possible configurations you can run to get sound and mic to work on a console.

If you don't want sound running to your TV, but want to pump it through your computer's speakers:
You can use a simple converter (RCA female to 1/8" stereo male), and stick it into the line in on your computer.

If you want sound running to both your TV and your computer:
You would use the method previously discussed in this thread to take the RCA output from your TV to the line in on your computer (RCA Male to 1/8" stereo male). Input in this case shouldn't matter, and you could run optical from your console to your TV, but will still be running stereo from your TV to your PC.

If you are looking to get surround sound working using the optical cable.
Check the back of the computer to make sure that there is an optical input. Most recent Desktops will have an Optical input either on / near the sound card, and / or newer graphics cards could have optical input. Some surround sound speaker sets like the Logitech z906 have an optical in built in, that you could run direct from the console to the speakers. If you're looking for a new sound card, you can get a PCI, or PCIe card with optical in and out usually for less then $20. Do your research into the card, as some cards will only accept certain ranges from your console, (my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro for instance will NOT accept 5.1, Dolby Digital , or DTS from my PS3.)

Microphones can be easy to get working, and pretty cheap too. I used to use a Logitech G330 headset, which has the standard green and pink stereo speaker and mic cable. This would then run into a logitech converter, which took it to USB. A quick search on ebay reveals that they do sell the USB to 3.5mm (1/8") adapters on ebay for around $10. You may be able to find one cheaper though, and YMMV.

I hope this helps you in your endeavours to maximize compatibility between your PC and console.

For me the best way to connect headphones and mic to ps4:
It's that I connect the second dualshock and enter their son's account. Include the headphones and microphone in this DS4. To PSN voice chat rooms (I don't know what they are called in the English version of psn) I connect from my son's account, then switch to my account, hear all the system sounds and can communicate in psn voice chatrooms.

Upd: sorry, offtop. While reading the messages forgot about the name of the topic. The moderator can delete or move, as he sees fit

You can either use Soundwire to output the sound to an Android device.
