Some n00by questions about Sixaxis and Dongle?

Post by vedranius »

Hello all!
I'm totally new to PS3 things and to all this emulating things with Sixaxis emu...
The thing is... I borrowed PS3 from my friend only cos of BF3 (my GPU sucks on PC), so I'm trying to get better on controller, but still, I'm so n00bish on it... that I'll rather find something, how I can use K/M on it...
So, I found this awesome page!
I'm using Linux/Ubuntu, everyday, so it's not a problem...
But, I'm confused of using a hardware things...
So, what I need is?
Any PS3 controller? Or it have to be a Sixaxis wireless controller for PS3?
Cos, my friend doesn't have it anymore, cos it's broke, and he gave me some SmartBox controller which isn't wireless...

As I supose, I use Bluetooth dongle in my PC for connecting to the Sixaxis's Bluetooth dongle connected to PS3? Am I right?
And with your's SW I just change the address of Bluetooth dongle (in PC/Linux) to the one from Sixaxis, so that PS3 connects throught Sixaxis's Bluetooth (connected to PS3) dongle to the PC Bluetooth SixaxisEmu Dongle?

So, what I need is a original PS3 sixaxis to get this work throught Bluetooth things?
Or is there any other way to get this work with this SmartBox controller?

Thank you so much! And keep up the great work!!!!!! ;)

Yes, you need an official sixaxis controller (be careful, there are fake ones on ebay), a dongle, and a PC.

Not all dongles work, but there are recommended ones in this thread: link.

Tnx for the fast reply! ;)
Also, I have some BT dongle, that is older one, with this chip - BlueCore02 and other with - none (but Manufacturer is: Integrated System Solution Corp. (57)...

Also, which cheaper controller from eBay may work instead of the original one, if any?
And I can use that SmartBox controller with USB version of Sixaxis Emu?
Thank you!

The bluecore02 will probably work, just try it. The other one probably won't work.

I've no idea about where to get cheap genuine sixaxis controllers...

The USB version doesn't require any controller.

Oh, tnx!
And yeah, is there a finished USB controllers that I can buy? Or I have to make one, and solder it?
Is there parts on eBay that doesn't need soldering? or?
Tnx! ;)
EDIT 1: Also, I didn't find Teensy board on eBay... Any other suggestions for the board on ebay, which is kinda cheap, or have a good price?

Just buy the genuine Teensy 2.0, it's worth the price. You can buy it with pins already soldered, and you can get a usb to serial dongle with wires, so as to build a solder-less adapter.

Or I can build you one, just send me a PM to get details.

This is how a solder-less one would be like. (refresh the page after loading it, if the pictures doesn't show)

Tell me, can I borrow a original PS3 controller from someone just to connect it to PC to read an adress, and then give it back to it, or I have to have the controller all the time with me?
Also, does ps3 controller has the additional dongle bluetooth for ps3 or it connects directly to the ps3's built-in bluetooth?

ps3 controllers directly connect & borrowed should work 'cause the addresses are saved if i remember correctly:).
