How to turn around fast in FPS?

Hey,

so I set up everything fine for a sweet 1:1 translation, however turning around is exhausting. For a full turnaround I have to do a broad and wide stroke with the mouse but then in game movement is still slower.

In various FPS (I checked with Fallout 4 and Metro on PS4) tilting the stick all the way to the edge will turn around the player character the fastest way possible. This speed of turnaround is however I can not achieve with my mouse movement, even if I stroke the broadest and quickest, as if the mouse movement never gets translated into the axis' maximum position.

Checking in curses mode with various configurations (Acceleration in [0,1], Acceleration >1, Sensitivity low or high, Deadzone 0-20, Buffer 0-2, Filter 0-1) I see that the edge of the stick is only sometimes briefly touched.

It looks like the best way to achieve high speed is to move the mouse in constant middle speed, which goes against the expectation that high speed differences in short distances (meaning high acceleration) should result in highest axis translation. If I accelerate the mouse quickly it does not have any influence at all, rather the mouse just goes faster than possible in game. Lowering the deadzone only lowers the regular precision one can achieve since the inputs are thus exaggerated, rather it should be that if one is accelerating the mouse highly outside a certain boundary that is set while the mouse is not accelerated highly this should translate to broader stick movements.

Anybody know a solution to this?

Hi,
Did you try increasing the sensitivity?
Also don't forget that the turning speed is capped by the gamepad interface.

Yes I tried that. I checked all possible combinations and the results are not acceptable. Either I get nice aiming but then weak turning or I get fast turning and too sensitive aiming. On PCs this problem is solved by polling the mouse speed: A difference in distance in smaller time results in more velocity on screen.

My mouse is this. Yes, it's only 1000 DPI, but I also tried better mice (don't have the model now, I just took it from a friend) and I just played Star Wars Battlefront on PS4 with it wonderful.

I this was the config at Metro. Mind that Metro only switches to fast-turn mode if the control stick is at the maxed out position. My assumtion is, that given the current way of polling the mouse input there is no way to get and stay at the maxed out control position.

A 1000-DPI moue is not appropriate.
It is currently not possible to work-around non-linear turning speed.
