G27 works with GT3 and GT4 through USB on PS2 hardware, but I just tried playing GT4 on a PS3 (cfw slim. not fully backwards compatible, made with ps2 classics gui) and the wheel does not work correctly. It only works as a controller, there is resistance but no proper force feedback.
I don't think the PS3 supports the G27 with PS2 games, but I don't have a fully backwards compatible PS3 to confirm this.
If you can, try your g29 as g27 on real ps2 hardware.

Wish i could help you guys when it comes to wheels but unfortunately i don't own any.
However i found this on Wikipedia, and as i can see Gran Turismo 4 on PS3 does not support wheel.
