Just try with a live cd or a live usb (as said in the tutorial).

The only way to know is to try.

In the ubuntu launcher, click on the "Home Folder" icon.
Once the file manager is started, press ctrl+h.
As a result, hidden folders will appear, .sixemugui is one of them (note the point at the beginning of the name).

Does your new dongle fix the delay issue?

They should work.
