On the console press PS->Devices->Turn off this device->Dualshock 4

Then you can connect DS4 to the PC by cable and it should not disconnect.

I don't think it can be set in configuration as hardware connector is mapping this before it even gets to the computer.

namco negcon+ps2 to ps3 adapter I think there's your issue. This adapter may translate d-pad digital buttons into left analog axis and you aren't alone with that problem.
