DIY USB Adapter, DS4, Win10 working but unstable

Post by gimxFra »

Hey guys,

Problem:
I can simulate a DS4 Controller for the PS4, but only sometimes!
In most cases i get the typical error like seen most times in the Forums:
"Cant read packet Header, .... Controller not detected..., Adapter not detected..., Timeout"

Setup:
- Windows 10 machine
- Clean install of GIMX 5.8 64 bit
- Stock Driver for DS4 Controller (Didnt Change anything with Zadig [Program to modify usb Drivers])
- The typical DIYS Setup like described in the tutorials (Serial converter plus Teensy 2.0+ [Atmega 32u processor])
- PS4
- Original DS4 Controller

Possible causes for the instability:
- GIMX may have some issues talking to the usb Drivers
- The Timing and order is not correct how I plug together the components (Restart PS4 with DS4 connected, Unplug DS4, Plugin Teensy into PS4, Plugin Serial converter into PC, Plugin DS4 into pc, Start GIMX)

Should i try another OS?
Should i rather try a Bluetooth dongle?
Do i Need to install some other usb Drivers?
Can i start gimx with some other Parameters allowing for a longer and more stable Registration period for the DS4?

Regards
Fra

This kind of error may happen in the following cases:
  • faulty USB cable
  • faulty connection between the AVR USB board and the USB to serial adapter
  • console powered off
