The correct wiring is:
GND -> GND
D2 -> TXO
D3 -> RXI
What happens when you click on start in gimx-launcher?
Do you have any error message?

So I got a little further. I rewired using your information and then did the driver yet again (I was going to make a video to show you). When I did, it asked me to reboot (the first time this happened). So I did and after I rebooted I tried again. This time I got a new error I've never seen in the command window that flashes briefly:
option -c with value 'X360.xml'
option -p with value 'COM7'
subpos flag is set
force_updates flag is set
Detected USB adapter: 360pad.
spoof started
usb_spoof_forward_to_device failed with error: -9
bmRequestType: 0x41 bRequest: 0x82 wValue: 0x0003 wIndex: 0x0103 wLength: 0x0022
Spoof failed.
connector_init failed

In Windows, the 360 controller has to be unplugged/replugged before each spoof attempt.

Thank you so much for all your help. I've got it working at last!
It seems things are a bit finicky about the order you plug things in, restarting, etc. I was having problems using one USB port on my console so I switched to the other port and it works fine. I still have to do a bit of plugging/unplugging of all the various components to finally get it working. But I'm sure the more I use it, the better I'll get at figuring out the perfect sequence.
Thank you so much for all your help getting this sorted out, I really appreciate it. And thanks for making this available for folks who need special equipment to play video games.

Great!
The 360 controller has to be unplug and replug (from/to the PC) each time you restart the 360 and each time you unplug and replug the adapter (from/to the 360).
