Refresh period?

Everytime, starting GIMX you get displayed the refresh period is 10.00ms, as I read in the wiki, I am able to change it. Would I have any advantage if I set it higher or lower 
The lower the refresh period, the lower the latency.
For compatibility reasons gimx sticks to the refresh rates of the official controllers.
