Xbox Series X + Xbox one controller

Forked from https://gimx.fr/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3941

I tried to connect the Taiko Controller(Switch version) to Xbox series X, cause the Drum master was just added to Game Pass.
Made DIY adapter and followed tutorial but could not make them working at all.

I checked those adapters with Dual Shock FW(EMUPS4.hex). At that time, Taiko controller worked with PS5 flawlessly. So I believe that wiring is well done at least.

After pressing Guide Button of the XBOX One controller, the Guide Button started blinking but nothing happened after that.
(The Guide button is turned on when connected USB cable and turned off after Gimx suggests me to press Guide button.)

Any suggestions are appreciated.

GIMX adapter: DIY, CP2102 USB to TTL, Arduino Pro Micro clone
GIMX version: 8.0
OS: WIN10 21H2 and Ubuntu 20.04 (tried with both environment)
Controller : Model 1537, FW 1.1.400.6, without 3.5mm jack and Bluetooth support. used one.
Console: Xbox Series X

Hello,

Thank you very much for that detailed info. This helps a lot.
Hmm that's weird. Did you update the controller firmware recently?

I myself didn't. I'm not sure whether former owner updated or not.

However, according to the post in 2015 below, firmware version of 1.1.400.6 seems to be quite old.
(Because they tried to update from 1.1.400.6 to 1.2.2236.0 in seven years ago)

Hello. Have you tried reverting controller firmware through Xbox Assist App. It helped me with my Xbox One S controller. It might work!

This is pretty old firmware I think, but you could give it a shot.

Tried to downgrade the controller by following the procedure described at
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/xbo ... 9951b7c109

But after I selected "Check controller firmware" at Step5, I got the message saying that the controller is up to date.
The strange thing is that I can see that controller having updates in controller properties.

I'll try to get another controller for more investigation.

Here I got another and it worked flawlessly. After pushing guide button, it does not blink but keep its light turned on.
Now I can use Taiko controller with Xbox Series X!

The controller used;
Model 1697 (with 3.5 mm Jack but no BT support)
FW 2.3.2381.0 (Latest?)

I think there may be only few difference in HW between 1537 and 1697. So if we update the controller model 1537(ver 1.1.400.6), it may work.
I'll keep current 1537(for future investigation) and will get another 1537 for confirming above.

I have a 1697 controller and it works. Console never asked me for fw update though. I'll check tomorrow what my fw is.

Here comes another 1537 with FW 1.1.400.6. It does not work as is.
Then I have updated it through Xbox Series X and got FW 2.3.2381.0. I tested it with my GIMX and it worked.

Here is summary of my observation

Code: Select all

No.	model	FW STATUS
1	1537	1.1.400.6	not working
2	1537	2.3.2381.0	working
3	1697	2.3.2381.0	working
So, currently (Feb. 2022), we still can update the controller for these two models. And better to update pretty old FW.

Now I have total 4 controllers for my Series X. Any suggestion for good multi-play games?

Big thanks for your tests keitark. I will immediately put that info to our sticky thread. You will help a lot of poeple with similar problems.

I checked my controller fw : 1697 - 2.3.2385.0 - Working.
