refresh rate and proccessing time

when I run gimx in linux command line and specify --refresh 2 it becomes really lagging but if I don't do it the default is 100Hz. My question is what I need to upgrade to allow the refresh rate to increase? I want a better processing time.

I guess you are using a bluetooth dongle. It can't run faster than 100Hz.
With a DIY USB adapter you could run at 250Hz (with a mouse at 500Hz).
