Xbox one Controller linking problem

I now have the gimx, but sadly when I attempt to play a game using a mouse and keyboard, my controller doesn’t restart, it only unlinks from the Xbox after turning off. This means that the controller connects to my laptop, and so the Xbox doesn’t recognise any input.
Therefore, I can’t get the gimx to work. I’ve seen videos and explanations where the controller will restart and then the mkb connects, but I have a ‘no controller’ notification in the game as the controller hasn’t linked to the console again. I’ve tried everything from new batteries to updates and restarting my console.
I’m wondering whether here is an issue with my controller or if there is simply an issue with my laptop linking to the controller.
I’m devastated after spending a fair bit of money on this, and hopefully I can get it to work with some help from you guys!

Maybe you forgot pressing the guide button on the controller?
